In the beginning we were a small, idealistic business, with just 6 dedicated employees, situated on top of a pizza parlor in Northeast Philadelphia. In the early days I would often work 16 hour days traveling from merchant to merchant, and then going home to answer technical support calls on my cell phone well into evening – sometimes at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday morning! We all performed tasks, some big, some small, and some even menial that were outside our areas of expertise. However, our team had a clear and collective vision to be great and we continued to march forward. Since Alpha Card experienced those humble beginnings, we uniquely understand your situation of trying to grow a business in challenging economic times with limited funds.
Today, Alpha Card Services is comprised of an experienced staff of industry professionals, including Sales, Customer Service, Technical Support, Marketing, Retention, Risk and Underwriting, serving merchants from our state-of-the-art corporate headquarters in Huntington Valley, Pennsylvania and Roseville, California regional office. We help many businesses, ranging from mom-and-pop diners to multi-chain retail establishments, take advantage of the latest technology to help meet their goals and objectives.
When we founded Alpha Card Services in October 2000, the competitive landscape was littered with many credit card processors that focused on one product only, often providing questionable service and integrity. Many merchants complained to us that they had to deal with a different company and different sales reps for all their core business functions, such as Payroll or POS. They really just wanted a one-stop shopping resource for all their business requirements.
We saw that as a real opportunity, and established our fundamental principles of focusing on world-class service, proficient technical support and developing a "one-stop shopping" portfolio of related products and services that fit merchant needs, such as POS Systems, Payroll, Gift & Reward Cards, Merchant Cash Advances and ATM Services. With this strategic decision, our merchants are able to deal with one company, one sales rep, and one focus on providing outstanding service and support.
Not only do we provide around-the-clock 24/7/365 support on your purchase, our relationship managers continually reach out to you to ensure your continued satisfaction. Some of our primary customer service principles include the following:
1. An Industry First Zero Hold Time Policy: You'll never again be entered into an annoying phone queue for any support issue. Our multilingual, U.S. based customer service and technical support departments are always here to assist you.
2. Quality Assurance: You can expect a call after the first month to ensure that your statement is accurate and complete. Additionally, after your product is installed and configured our quality assurance team will reach out to you with quarterly phone calls and make certain that everything is operating as promised.
3. Same Day Application Approval: Additionally we pledge a same day application approval for all new merchants. If a completed application is submitted to our Underwriting Department by 3:00 p.m. PST, it will be approved the same day. We understand the reality that merchant business does not end at 5:00 p.m. EST.
Another principle that we adhere to strongly at Alpha Card is our integrity. We value people first – whether they are an employee, a merchant or business partner. Strong, talented people are what made this business great and continues to fuel our growth. During the recent economic recession we did not layoff any employees. The decision was made that if necessary, I would reduce my compensation before I would layoff even one employee. Fortunately it was not necessary to do either, and Alpha Card Services has grown steadily since our inception.
We also believe strongly in promoting from within and mentoring our employees with solid training and adherence to our key principles. For example, our Director of Risk and Underwriting got her start as a Marketing intern, and our Director of Merchant Support begin with us as an entry-level support technician. Even one of our Graphic Designers was our Receptionist for several years. As we launch new products, we often build the new departments from within our organization. We identify those employees that have the best potential for success in their new roles, provide them with the appropriate training and knowledge, and equip them with effective sales and marketing tools, well before we launch the product to the merchant. We do this to make certain that your experience is seamless and that we do not overpromise and underdeliver.
For the past 5 years I am proud to report that Alpha Card Services has been ranked as one of Inc. Magazine's 500 I 5000 fastest growing companies in the country and has been honored in Philadelphia Business Journal's Top 100, consecutively since 2007 as well. Just recently, both Alpha Card Services and I were honored with the prestigious Philadelphia 100 Hall of Fame award for at least 5 consecutive years of rankings on the Philadelphia 100 list for being one of the fastest growing Philadelphia companies.
